Uygur Separatism in the PRC

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se autorka věnuje tématu ujgurského separatismu v Čínské lidové republice, důvodům jeho vzniku a možného budoucího vývoje. Po úvodním seznámení s tématem následuje kapitola věnující se cílům této práce, zhodnocení zdrojů a jejich dostupnosti v různých jazycích. Ve druhé kapitole se autorka snaží o vymezení termínu ?Ujgurové? pro národ žijící v dnešním Sin-ťiangu. Následuje vysvětlení pojmů: separatismus a autonomismus. Další část práce je věnována historii Čínsko-ujgurských vztahů od 2. st. př. n. l. až do současnosti. Autorka se soustředí na vzájemné interakce mezi těmito skupinami, na významné historické mezníky ve vývoji jejich vztahů, na politickou a kulturně-sociální situaci v daném období. Čtvrtá kapitola pojednává o represích čínského státu proti Ujgurům. Pozornost je soustředěna především na demografickou, jazykovou a náboženskou politiku. Součástí je také problematika samotné autonomie a nerovnoměrného ekonomického rozvoje. Následující kapitola se věnuje ujgurským organizacím. Ty se autorka pokusila rozdělit podle jejich požadavků a prostředků k dosažení cílů na organizace usilující o skutečnou autonomii, separatistické organizace a organizace teroristické. Poslední část práce má za cíl nastínit možný budoucí vývoj Sin-ťiangu v souvislosti s vývojem Číny. Ohled je brán také na vliv sousedních států, USA nebo mezinárodního společenství. V samotném závěru se autorka pokusí zhodnotit reálnost vzniku samostatného ujgurského státu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the causes and possible future development of Uyghur separatism in the PRC. The initial intruduction of the topic is followed by the chapter containing the aims of the thesis, the evaluation of sources and their availability in different foreign languages. In the second chapter the author tries to define the term Uyghurs used for the people that live in the area of contemporary Xinjiang. The explanation of the terms separatism and autonomy follows. The next part of the paper describes the history of Chinese-Uyghur relationships from the 2nd century BC up to present times. The author?s attention is focused on the mutual interactions between these two groups of people, the key historical points in the development of their relations, and also on political, cultural and social situation in particular periods. The fourth chapter is aimed at the oppression of China against the Uyghurs. The author?s attention is concentrated mainly on the demographic, language and religious policies. The points at issue of the autonomy itself and unaqueable economic progress are also included. The next chapter is about Uyghur organizations. The author classified them according to what they require and which means they use to achieve their requirements into organizations struggling for real autonomy, separatistic organizations and terrorist organizations. The purpose of the last part of the thesis is to outline the possible future development of Xinjiang in connection with the development of China, considering the influence of neighbourning countries, the USA and the international community. In conclusion the author tries to assess the feasebility of the independent Uyghur state foundation.
