Analysis of the high-growt firms in the Czech Republic

Anotácia:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá rychle rostoucími firmami, jinak přezdívanými gazely, které působí v České republice. Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat charakteristiky těchto firem. Dalším cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, zda odlišné charakteristiky ovlivňují finanční výkonnost těchto firem. K určení gazel byla použita definice Bircha (1995). Na základě této definice bylo identifikováno za pomocí firemní databáze Amadeus 552 rychle rostoucích firem, které byly založeny v období let 2007 – 2012. V rámci empirické časti práce jsou analyzovány demografické, geografické, oborové, manažerské i finanční charakteristiky rychle rostoucích firem v ČR. Vícenásobná regresní analýza byla použita k zjištění vlivu vybraných charakteristik na finanční výkonnost gazel. Výsledky práce ukazují, že gazely jsou v České republice spíše mladé a středně velké společnosti. Nejvíce gazel působí v oboru velkoobchod a maloobchod. Gazely se převážně nacházejí ve velkých městech, když nejvíce z nich sídlí v Praze. Na základě provedené analýzy se ale neprokázalo, že by gazely se sídlem v Praze dosahovaly lepších finančních výsledků v porovnání s ostatními gazelami. Hlavním přínosem této práce je, že rozšiřuje dosavadní výzkum o rychle rostoucích firmách.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with high-growth firms, so-called gazelles, which operate in the Czech Republic. The aim of the master thesis is to analyze the characteristics of these firms. Another aim of the master thesis is to find out, whether the different characteristics affect the financial performance of these firms. The Birch´s (1995) definition was used to identify the gazelles. Based on this definition and corporate database Amadeus, 552 firms were identified in the period from 2007 to 2012. In the empirical part of the thesis are analyzed the demographical, geographical, sectoral, managerial and financial characteristics of the Czech high-growth firms. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine the effect of selected characteristics on the financial performance of gazelles. The results of this work show, that gazels are rather young and medium-sized companies in the Czech Republic. Most gazelles operate in the branch wholesale and retail. Gazelles are mostly located in large cities when most of them are based in Prague. On the basis of the analysis, it has not been proved, that the Prague-based gazelles achieved better financial results compared to other gazelles. The main contribution of this work is, that extends existing reaserch on high-growth firms.
