Demographic transformations of the European Union and their impact on democracy

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zaměření se na transformace v Evropské unii s ohledem na demografické proměny, které se v neposlední době začínají projevovat jak ve fungování členských států EU, tak samotné Evropské unie. Ohrozí imigrace demokratický systém? Začne se Evropská unie pod tíhou rozporů rozpadat? Žene nás samotný demokratický systém svou otevřeností do celkové (demografické a kulturní) proměny Evropy? Tato práce má za cíl poukazovat na příčiny a možné následky těchto změn, které se nás jako členů EU bezprostředně dotýkají. Zprvu se práce zaměří na demokracii a na pojem Evropské unie. Další kapitoly se budou zabývat demografickou transformací EU, pro lepší přehlednost poslouží příklady zemí a to konkrétně Francouzské republiky, Spojeného království Velké Británie a Severního Irska a Spolkové republiky Německo. Poslední kapitola se bude zabývat dopady na demokracii, jestli se postupně promění v post-demokracii, či úplně ztratí své základní rysy a z Evropy vymizí.

Abstract:

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to focus on the transformation of European Union, considering its demographic changes, which are currently occurring within functioning of the member states and even the European Union itself. Will the immigration endanger the democratic system? Will the European Union collapse? Does the democratic system itself, with its openness and warmth, drive us into overall (demographic and cultural) change of Europe? This thesis isn't here to impose fear, but to highlight the causes and the possible consequences of these changes, which are related to us, as members of the EU. Firstly, this thesis will focus on democracy itself and the term "European Union". Following chapters will focus on demographic transformation of the EU. For better understanding, the examples of states such as French republic, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Federal republic of Germany, will be used. The last chapter will be focused on the impacts on democracy, whether the democracy will change to post-democracy or completely lose its basic features and disappear from Europe.
