Analysis of pollution in sediments at river basin in Ploučnice river

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na kontaminaci korytových sedimentů řeky Ploučnice rizikovými prvky uvolněnými do prostředí pravděpodobně z antropogenních činností a dnes dál šířenými přepracováním říčních sedimentů. Na základě dřívějších výzkumů kontaminace nivních sedimentů řeky Ploučnice byl vybrán úsek od Stráže pod Ralskem až po Českou Lípu. Pro hodnocení rozsahu kontaminace bylo provedeno vzorkování korytových sedimentů Ploučnice na celkem padesáti místech. Pro srovnání bylo na jejích přítocích provedeno celkem dvacet-jedna odběrů, třináct na Robečském potoce a osm na Svitavce. Jednotlivé vzorky byly analyzovány pomocí rentgenové fluorescenční spektrometrie (XRF). Ve vybraných vzorcích byla provedena zrnitostní analýza ke zjištění vlivu třídění sedimentů proudící vodou. Zjištěné koncentrace rizikových prvků byly geochemicky normalizovány k potlačení vlivu třídění sedimentů a výsledky pak srovnány s průměrným složením svrchní zemské kůry. K interpretaci naměřených koncentrací bylo využito nástrojů GIS. Programu ArcGIS Desktop bylo využito také k detailnímu prostudování území v rámci velkých změn koryta. Při porovnání vzorků bylo zjištěno mírné zvýšení obsahu uranu v Ploučnici zejména na neregulovaném toku pod Mimoní. Zvýšené obsahy zinku byly zjištěny na Ploučnici hlavně pod soutokem s Panenským potokem a na Svitavce. Koncentrace U a Zn byly zjištěny nižší než asi před deseti lety.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on contamination of river channel sediments in the Ploučnice River. Risk elements have been released into the environment probably from anthropogenic activities and are still further dispersed by reworking of the river sediments. The river segment between the cities of Stráž pod Ralskem and Česká Lípa was selected based on the earlier research of the floodplain sediments of the Ploučnice River. Sampling in the Ploučnice River channel was performed in fifty points to evaluate the contamination. Twenty-one reference samples were taken in its tributaries - thirteen on the Robečský creek and eight samples on the Svitavka creek. Individual samples were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). In selected samples the granulometric analysis was performed to determine the influence of sediment sorting by flowing water. The observed concentrations of risk elements were geochemically normalized to suppress the influence of sediment sorting. The results were compared with the average composition of the upper continental crust. GIS tools were used for interpretation of measured concentrations. ArcGIS Desktop software has been used for a detailed study of the major changes in the river. Comparison of individual rivers and creeks found slightly higher concentration of uranium in the Ploučnice River in the unregulated flow downstream of Mimoň. Relatively high concentration of zinc was detected mainly downstream of the confluence of the Ploučnice with the Panenský creek and with the Svitavka creek. The concentrations of U and Zn were generally lower than ten years ago.
