The effect of wood species and their combinations on the tensile-shear strength of the glued joint

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá stanovením a porovnáním smykové pevnosti při tahovém namáhání lepeného spoje dřevin buku lesního (Fagus silvatica L.), smrku ztepilého (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.), olše lepkavé (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.), jejich kombinací a 3 různých adheziv (PUR, RPF, EPI). Práce se skládá z teoretické a experimentální části. Teoretická část se zabývá vlastnostmi lepeného spoje a charakterizuje se zde pojem lepení dřeva. Jsou zde popsány faktory působící na pevnost lepeného spoje. Dále jsou uvedeny základní informace o lepidlech a stručná charakteristika lepených materiálů. Experimentální část se zabývá metodikou a řádným stanovením zkoumaných vlastností v souladu s platnými normami. Tato část obsahuje statistický výstup ve formě tabulek a grafů. Z výsledků vyplývá, že použitá dřevina a kombinace dřevin mají prokazatelný vliv na smykovou pevnost lepeného spoje při tahovém namáhání. Nejvyšší smykové pevnosti dosahovali homogenní tělesa vyrobena z buku. Naopak nejnižší pevnost se zjistila u olšových zkušebních těles. Z hlediska lepidel se jako nejvíce únosné jeví lepidlo PUR. Na rozdíl od lepidla EPI, které vykazuje nejnižší pevnostní hodnoty. V rámci kombinací dřevin se prokázal nárust smykové pevnosti pouze u těles vyrobených z buku a olše spojované adhezivem PUR. Na druhou stranu se u žádné kombinace neprojevilo zhoršení.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the determination and comparison of shear strength under tensile stress of glued joint of beech (Fagus silvatica L.), spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.), alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.), their combinations and 3 different adhesives (PUR, RPF, EPI). The work consists of theoretical and experimental parts. The theoretical part deals with the properties of the glued joint and characterizes the concept of wood gluing. The factors affecting the strength of the glued joint are described. Furthermore, basic information on adhesives and a brief characterisation of glued materials are given. The experimental part deals with the methodology and proper determination of the properties under investigation in accordance with the applicable standards. This part contains statistical output in the form of tables and graphs. The results show that the wood species and combination of wood species used have a demonstrable effect on the shear strength of the bonded joint under tensile loading. The highest shear strength was achieved by homogeneous samples made of beech wood. On the other hand, alder wood samples showed the lowest strength. In terms of adhesives, PUR adhesives appeared to have a highest load-bearing. In contrast to EPI adhesive, which proved to have the lowest load-bearing strength. In terms of wood combinations, only the beech wood and alder wood test samples bonded with PUR adhesive showed an increase in shear strength. On the other hand, no combination showed deterioration.
