Ethics in translation: the theoretical approach in the Spanish and Czech translation field and the comparative analysis of the selected codes of ethics

Abstract:

The subject of the thesis is a comparison of the codes of ethics of selected associations of professional translators from the Spanish and Czech environment and their placement in the theoretical context of the development of the concept of ethics in the field of translatology. The theoretical part consists of a brief summary of the historical development of the concept of ethics in translation and an evaluation of the main theories that have influenced this concept. It also discusses the importance of incorporating ethical principles into the training of future translators and the importance of copyright and intellectual property in the translation profession. The practical part is devoted to a detailed comparative analysis of five selected codes and their evaluation according to the set criteria. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate which factors affect the content of the selected codes and to assess the importance of the codified ethical standards for the translation profession.

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je porovnání etických kodexů vybraných asociací profesionálních překladatelů ze španělského a českého prostředí a jejich zasazení do teoretického kontextu vývoje pojetí etiky v oblasti translatologie. Teoretická část spočívá ve stručném shrnutí historického vývoje pojetí etiky v oblasti překladu a zhodnocení hlavních teorií, které toto pojetí ovlivnily. Dále se věnuje důležitosti zahrnutí etických principů do výuky budoucích překladatelů a také významu autorských práv a duševního vlastnictví v profesi překladatele. Praktická část se věnuje podrobné komparativní analýze pěti vybraných kodexů a jejich zhodnocení podle nastavených kritérií. Cílem diplomové práce je zhodnotit jaké faktory ovlivňují obsah vybraných kodexů a posoudit důležitost kodifikované etické normy pro výkon překladatelské profese.
