The influence of financial mathematics on the level of financial knowledge in high school

Abstract:

Dle současných studií jsou studenti po absolvování střední školy vysoce náchylní na zadlužování, což souvisí s nízkými finančními znalostmi mladých lidí. Studenti nečerpají znalosti jen ve škole, ale rovněž z prostředí, ve kterém se pohybují a vyrůstají. Tyto faktory mají značný vliv na utváření si správných finančních návyků. Jedná se o vstupy, se kterými studenti přicházejí do školy a finanční matematika by jim měla tyto návyky usměrnit a znalosti prohloubit. Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, jaké faktory ovlivňují finanční návyky studentů gymnázií v Ústí nad Labem a jaký vliv mají na tyto návyky znalosti, které studenti získají při výuce finanční matematiky. Práce pracovala s primárními daty, které byly získány za pomoci dvoufázového dotazníkového šetření. V prvním šetření bylo pomocí dvouvýběrového T-testu s nerovností rozptylů potvrzeno, že faktor kapesného pozitivně ovlivňuje studentovo finanční návyky. U ostatních externích faktorů vliv prokázán nebyl. V druhém šetření bylo zjištěno za pomocí párového T?-testu, že výuka finanční matematiky pozitivně ovlivnila finanční znalosti studenta, avšak finanční návyky tyto nově nabyté znalosti významně neovlivnily. Tato práce přispěla současnému stavu poznání tím, že zjistila, jaké předmětné faktory ovlivňují finanční chování před výukou finanční matematiky, a zda samotná výuka ovlivnila finanční chování studentů. V rámci přidané hodnoty práce byl kantorkám gymnázií zaslán souhrn výsledků práce, který upozorňuje na značné nedostatky studentů spojených s pojmem inflace.

Abstract:

According to current studies, students are highly vulnerable to debt after graduating from high school, which is related to the low financial knowledge of young people. Students do not only gain knowledge at school, but also from the environment in which they move and grow up. These factors have a significant impact on the formation of good financial habits. These are the inputs that students come to school with, and financial mathematics should channel these habits and deepen their knowledge. The aim of the Bachelor's thesis is to find out what factors influence the financial habits of students in grammar schools in Ústí nad Labem and what influence the knowledge that students acquire in financial mathematics has on these habits. The thesis worked with primary data that were collected using a two-phase questionnaire survey. In the first investigation, using a two-sample T-test with inequality of variances, it was confirmed that the pocket money factor positively influences students' financial habits. No influence was found for other external factors. In the second investigation, it was found using a paired T?-test that financial mathematics instruction positively affected the student's financial knowledge, but financial habits did not significantly affect this newly acquired knowledge. This study contributed to the current state of knowledge by investigating what antecedent factors influence financial behavior prior to financial mathematics instruction and whether the instruction itself influenced students' financial behavior. As an added value to the thesis, a summary of the findings was sent to high school teachers, highlighting the significant gaps in student learning associated with the concept of inflation.
