History of the Salvation Army in Ostrava with a focus on community work

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, jak byla realizována sociální práce v rámci práce s komunitou v Armádě spásy v 90. letech 20. století. Toto období bylo zvoleno zejména z toho důvodu, že organizace Armády spásy byla založena v Ostravě v 90. letech 20.století. Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na město Ostrava. Je rozčleněna do 5 kapitol. První kapitola je zaměřena na metodologii výzkumu a jsou v ní popsány metody historického výzkumu, jeho strategie a cíle. Je zde uvedena také metoda historického výzkumu, která je využita v této práci. Jedná se o metodu obsahové analýzy. Druhá kapitola obsahuje informace ohledně historie Armády spásy v Anglii, ale také její počátky v České republice. Třetí kapitola obsahuje detailnější popis fungování Armády spásy v Ostravě, její vznik a také cílové skupiny se kterými, Armáda spásy spolupracovala a kterým nabízela svou komunitní práci včetně programů, které organizace nabízela. K dosažení naplnění cíle bakalářské práce byla využita obsahová analýza primárních a sekundárních zdrojů. Primárními zdroji bakalářské práce jsou především interní materiály a dokumenty Armády spásy v Ostravě a dokumenty Ústředí Armády spásy v Praze, ale také Londýnského archivu Armády spásy v Anglii. Čtvrtá kapitola se zabývá popisem komunit, se kterými Armáda spásy v 90. letech 20. století spolupracovala. V páté kapitole je obsažena evaluace celé bakalářské práce a shrnutí naplnění cílů práce.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out how social work was implemented in the context of community work in the Salvation Army in the 1990s. This period was chosen mainly because the Salvation Army organization was founded in Ostrava in the 1990s. The bachelor thesis focuses on the city of Ostrava. It is divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter focuses on the research methodology and describes the methods of historical research, its strategies and objectives. The historical research method used in this thesis is also presented. It is the method of content analysis. The second chapter contains information regarding the history of the Salvation Army in England, as well as its origins in the Czech Republic. The third chapter contains a more detailed description of the work of the Salvation Army in Ostrava, its origins and also the target groups that the Salvation Army worked with and offered its community work to, including the programmes that the organisation offered. A content analysis of primary and secondary sources was used to achieve the aim of the bachelor thesis. The primary sources of the bachelor thesis are mainly internal materials and documents of the Salvation Army in Ostrava and documents of the Salvation Army Headquarters in Prague, as well as the Salvation Army London Archive in England. The fourth chapter deals with the description of the communities with which the Salvation Army cooperated in the 1990s. Chapter five contains an evaluation of the whole thesis and a summary of the fulfilment of the thesis objectives.
