Forensic entomology and its use in practice

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o forenzní entomologii. To je vědní obor, který na základě znalosti ekologie nekrosaprofágních druhů hmyzu stanovuje délku post mortem intervalu, tj. doby od smrti jedince do nálezu jeho těla, což pomáhá při vyšetřování trestných činů. Podle doby, po kterou bylo mrtvé tělo kolonizováno hmyzem, pak lze odhadnout nejen dobu smrti, ale také fakt, že bylo s tělem manipulováno, nebo že byly v těle před smrtí přítomny drogy, těžké kovy či léky. Naopak při absenci mrtvoly lze z různých vývojových stádií hmyzu získat lidskou DNA jako důkaz, že tělo se zde nacházelo a následně bylo ukryto jinam.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with forensic entomology. It is a discipline that, based on knowledge of the ecology of necrosaprophagous insect species, determines the length of the post mortem interval (the time from the death of an individual to the discovery of the body), which helps criminal investigation. By measuring the time during which the dead body was colonized by insects, it is possible to estimate not only the time of death but also figure out the fact that the body was subsequently manipulated or that heavy metals or drugs were present in the body before death. Conversely, in the absence of a corpse, human DNA can be obtained from the various stages of insect development as evidence that the body was located here and subsequently hidden elsewhere.
