Prenos ľudských plazmódií do Nového sveta predstavuje nevyriešenú otázku. Plasmodium falciparum ako aj Plasmodium vivax vznikli v Starom svete, no oba druhy sú v súčasnosti prítomné v Strednej a Južnej Amerike. Transmission of human Plasmodium parasites to New World constitutes unresolved riddle. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax originated in Old World but both species are now prevalent in Americas.
