Effect of phase change material on the thermal insulation properties of mineral wool

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje vlivu objemového zastoupení parafinu implementovaného do souvrství s minerální vatou na výsledný součinitel tepelné vodivosti. Tato závislost je řešena ze dvou důvodů. Prvním je pozitivní účinek parafínu, jakožto materiálu s fázovou změnou, na tepelnou pohodu v interiérech budov, které obklopuje prostředí s vyšším množstvím tepelné energie ve srovnání s prostředím vnitřním. Druhým důvodem je poměrně vysoký součinitel tepelné vodivosti parafínu v porovnání s dnes využívanými staveními materiály. Byla provedena literární rešerše, ve které bylo cíleno na oblasti šíření tepla, akumulace tepla, energetickou účinnost budov a následně na princip funkce materiálů s fázovou změnou, jejich rozdělení a možnosti zapouzdření. V experimentu proběhlo změření součinitele tepelné vodivosti pomocí heat flow meteru HFM 436 Lambda u vzorků samostatné minerální vaty, minerální vaty s 6,5% objemovým podílem parafínových makrokapslí a nakonec s 13,1% objemovým podílem parafínových makrokapslí. Pomocí Reussova, Voigtova a regresního modelu byla stanovena závislost součinitele tepelné vodivosti na objemovém podílu parafínových makrokapslí v minerální vatě. Proběhlo statistické srovnání Reussova modelu s experimentem, ze kterého vyšlo, že při hladině významnosti p=0,01 se experimentálně zjištěné a vypočtené hodnoty součinitele tepelné vodivosti statisticky významně nelišily. Pomocí výsledků práce bylo diskutováno, jaký dopad má implementace parafínových makrokapslí do skladeb konstrukcí na výsledný součinitel prostupu tepla.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the influence of the volume fraction of paraffin implemented into mineral wool on its thermal conductivity coefficient. Paraffin was chosen as a suitable representative of phase change materials, and its implementation was carried out using macrocapsules. A literature review was conducted, targeting areas of heat propagation, heat accumulation, energy efficiency of buildings, and subsequently the principles of phase change materials, their classification, and encapsulation possibilities. In the experiment, the thermal conductivity coefficient was measured using the HFM 436 Lambda heat flow meter on samples of standalone mineral wool, mineral wool with 6.5 % volume fraction of paraffin macrocapsules, and finally with 13.1 % volume fraction of paraffin macrocapsules. The dependence of the thermal conductivity coefficient on the volume fraction of paraffin macrocapsules in mineral wool was determined using Reuss, Voigt, and regression models. Statistical comparison of the Reuss model with the experiment showed that at a significance level of p=0.01, the experimentally determined and calculated values of the thermal conductivity coefficient did not differ significantly. Using the results of the study, the impact of implementing paraffin macrocapsules into construction compositions on the resulting heat transfer coefficient was discussed.
