The social pathology and protection of childhood from enlightenment to 1914. The disciplination as a part of the protection of children.

Abstract:

Disertační práce se věnuje sociální patologii a ochraně dětství od osvícenství do roku 1914. Zodpovídá otázky, jaké jevy byly ohrožující, proč byly tyto jevy definovány jako ohrožující a jakým způsobem proti nim stát nebo společnost bojovaly. Jedním z prostředků ochrany byla disciplinace. Část práce tak ukazuje, jak tato disciplinace probíhala. Práce se soustřeďuje především na území Čech. Ve sledování ochrany dětství se koncentruje především na existující soukromé a státní dobročinné ústavy (nalezinec, sirotčinec, vychovatelny, polepšovny, útulky) Ukazuje důvody vzniku těchto ústavů a to, jak zde vypadala péče o děti, jak dlouho trvala a jaké děti se do ústavů dostávaly. Poslední část práce je věnováva snahám o sjednocení veřejné a soukromé péče a úsilí o zlepšení financování nákladů na péči o znevýhodněné děti.

Abstract:

The thesis concerns the social pathology and the protection of childhood from The Enlightenment to 1914. The first part solves the question of the age limit of childhood and the question of the education of children. The second part introduces which events were considered as a threat and why. It shows how the society and the state proceeded against these threats. The third chapter applies to the institutional care of teh endangered children. It introduces the activities of the foundling hospital, orphanages, educational houses, houses of correction and asylums. The last chapter deals with the improvement effort of the organization of the state and private welfare and with the establishing of the Provincial orphan´s fund, which enanbled the improvement of funding. The thesis turns to the region of Bohemia.
