Ikebana and its influence on European floral design

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce na téma Ikebana a její vliv na evropskou floristickou tvorbu se zabývá japonským stylem aranžování a jeho dopady na floristiku dalších zemí mimo Japonsko. Ikebana je styl aranžování, který se vyznačuje jednoduchými liniemi a použitím minimálního množství kvetoucích rostlin i dřevin. Práce mimo jiné popisuje historii a původ ikebany, sortiment používaných rostlin a jeho sezónnost. Dále se věnuje konkrétním stylům škol ikebany a jednotlivým technikám, které se při tvorbě ikebany uplatňují. Aranžmá vytvořená pro potřeby této práce byla vyhotovena buď do nízkých nebo vysokých nádob podle stylu, který je pro ně charakteristický. V praktické části bylo vyhotoveno šestnáct aranžmá, která reprezentují jak klasický styl, tak i moderní přístupy. V neposlední řadě práce nabízí odpovědi na otázku, jakým způsobem japonská kultura ovlivnila evropskou floristiku a jak se i dnešní floristická tvorba vlivy ikebany inspiruje.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis on Ikebana and its influence on European floral design looks at the Japanese style of flower arranging and its influence on floral design in other countries outside of Japan. Ikebana is a style of floral arrangement characterised by simple lines and the use of minimal amounts of flowering plants and wood. The thesis describes, among other things, the history and origins of Ikebana, the range of plants used and their seasonality. It also discusses specific styles of Ikebana schools and the various techniques used in the creation of Ikebana. The arrangements created for the purposes of this thesis were made in either low or high containers according to the style that characterises them. Sixteen arrangements were made in the practical part, representing both classical styles and modern approaches. Finally, the thesis provides answers to the question of how Japanese culture has influenced European floristry and how contemporary floral design is also inspired by Ikebana influences.
