Comparison of the conduct of US foreign policy towards Cuba during the administrations of Barrack Obama and Donald Trump

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnáním zahraniční politiky USA vůči Kubě během administrativ Donalda Trumpa a Baracka Obamy. Cílem práce je komplexní zhodnocení obou prezidentů a jejich administrativ v oblastech jakými jsou diplomacie, embargo a lidská práva, které odrážejí odlišný přístup americké zahraniční politiky vůči Kubě mezi lety 2009-2021. Práce se skládá z terminologické a praktické části. Terminologická část definuje klíčové pojmy, jakými jsou zahraniční politika, embargo, sankce a lidská práva. Praktická část pak rozebírá přístup administrativ k těmto bodům ve vztahu vůči Kubě s důrazem na rozdíly mezi přístupy. Pozornost se tedy primárně soustředí na odlišný přístup obou prezidentů a to, jak svými kroky ovlivnili vztahy mezi USA a Kubou.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis compares US foreign policy towards Cuba during the administrations of Donald Trump and Barack Obama. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive assessment of both presidents and their administrations in areas such as diplomacy, the embargo and human rights, reflecting the different approach of US foreign policy towards Cuba between 2009 and 2021. The thesis consists of a terminological and a practical part. The terminology section defines key terms such as foreign policy, embargo, sanctions, and human rights. The practical part then discusses the administration's approach to these points in relation to Cuba, highlighting the differences between the approaches. Thus, the focus is primarily on the different approaches of the two presidents and how their actions have affected US-Cuba relations.
