Synthesis and toxicity of metal nanoparticles

Abstract:

Díky svým unikátním vlastnostem nacházejí nanočástice široké uplatnění v mnoha oblastech, což vede k jejich masivní produkci. Avšak nedostatečná znalost jejich potenciální toxicity pro organismy a životní prostředí je závažným problémem. Tato studie se zaměřuje na zdůraznění výhod a nevýhod toxicity nanočástic a také na mechanismy, jakými mohou pomoci v boji proti bakteriální rezistenci. Převážně kovové nanočástice byly syntetizovány a poté charakterizovány pomocí zařízení Zetasizer Nano a rastrovacího elektronového mikroskopu (SEM). Z výsledků pozorování vyplývá, že nanočástice mohou vykazovat různé složení, tvary, velikosti a stabilitu, které mohou ovlivňovat jejich toxicitu. Ukázalo se, že složení nanočástic má největší vliv na jejich toxicitu. Nanotechnologie nabízejí velký potenciál, avšak než budou nanočástice široce používány, je nezbytné důkladně zkoumat jejich potenciální toxicitu a zavést regulace nebo alespoň označení výrobků obsahujících nanočástice.

Abstract:

Thanks to their unique properties, nanoparticles have found applications in almost every field, resulting in high production. However, without sufficient knowledge of their toxic effects on organisms and the environment, their widespread use poses risks. This study aims to emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of nanoparticle toxicity and further explore mechanisms of toxicity in combating bacterial resistance. Primarily metallic nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized using Zetasizer Nano and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The observed results indicate that nanoparticles can vary in composition, shapes, sizes, and stability. Among other factors, these aspects influence their toxicity, with composition having the greatest impact. Nanotechnology undeniably holds great promise for the future, but before releasing nanoparticles into circulation, more research is needed to understand their toxic effects and implement regulations or labelling for products containing nanoparticles.
