Human problem solving of Nurikabe puzzle

Abstract:

This work is concerned with specifying complexity rating of the logic puzzle Nurikabe. It describes development of the program for gathering data of human solutions and its deployment on the web Proso. For understanding of the solving methods there was created a solver which partially simulates techniques used by people to solve the puzzle. The properties of simulator are compared with the data gathered from human solutions. For determination of task’s complexity there were proposed two types of metrics: based on static properties of a task and based on properties of particular simulator’s steps. The task’s complexity which was determined by time needed to solve the puzzle by humans was compared with the proposed metrics.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá určením obtiažnosti zadaní logickej úlohy Nurikabe. Popisuje vytvorenie prehrávača pre získanie dát z riešení ľuďmi a jeho nasadenie na webe Proso. Pre pochopenie postupov riešenia ľuďmi bol vytvorený riešič, čiastočne simulujúci techniky, ktoré ľudia používajú pre riešenie. Vlastnosti simulátora sú porovnávané z dátami získaných z riešení ľuďmi. Pre určenie obtiažnosti zadaní boli navrhnuté metriky dvoch prístupov: využívajúce statické vlastnosti zadaní a s dátami získaných v jednotlivých krokoch simulátora. Obtiažnosť zadaní, určená časom pre vyriešenie ľuďmi, je porovnávaná s navrhovanými metrikami obtiažnosti.
