e-Estonia: Estonian Digital System and Its Impact on International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Estonia

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis examines the digital system e-Estonia and analyses its impacts on international relations and foreign policy of the Republic of Estonia. This unusual phenomenon is still underexamined and unnoticed in discipline of international relations. At the beginning this research study focuses on the existing literature about the problematics and theoretical discourse. The next section introduces Estonian digital system, its history, components and functioning. The main part of the work is dedicated to research itself – firstly it focuses to Estonia’s targeted use of the system in foreign policy to achieve new political and economic opportunities; secondly it focuses on the system itself and its impact on perception and status of the state in the international field. Conclusion of the thesis brings the analysis and summarization of the research.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá digitálnym systémom e-Estonia a analyzuje jeho dopady na medzinárodné vzťahy a zahraničnú politiku Estónskej republiky. Tento neobvyklý fenomén je zatiaľ veľmi neprebádaný a vo výskume medzinárodných vzťahov takmer nepovšimnutý. Na začiatku sa táto výskumná práca venuje existujúcej literatúre o problematike a teoretickému diskurzu. Ďalšia stať práce predstavuje estónsky digitálny systém, jeho históriu, komponenty a fungovanie. Hlavná časť sa zaoberá samotným výskumom – najprv tým, ako Estónsko cielene využíva systém v zahraničnej politike pre získanie nových obchodných a politických príležitostí; neskôr tým, ako systém samotný mení percepciu a postavenie štátu v medzinárodnom prostredí. Záverom ponúka práca analýzu a zhodnotenie výskumu.
