Holocaust of Jews and genocide of Bosnians. Similarities and differences of two European genocides.

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá porovnáním dvou evropských genocid vykonaných ve 20. století. Konkrétně se jedná o holocaust Židů a genocidu Bosňáků, přičemž komparace těchto dvou událostí představuje základ pro lepší porozumění zločinů spáchaných na Bosňácích. V rámci uvedení do tématu se první část práce věnuje konceptuálnímu uchopení pojmu genocida a jejímu odlišení od jiných forem masového vraždění. Pozornost je též věnována změnám ve společnosti, které se promítly do povahy genocidy. S rozvojem moderní společnosti došlo ke změnám v motivu pachatele a do vyhlazovacího procesu byly zapojeny státní instituce, byrokratický aparát či věda. Další část práce se pak věnuje historickým i ideologickým příčinám holocaustu. Následně se zaměřuje na průběh vykonání této genocidy. Třetí část práce analyzuje společenskopolitické důvody vedoucí k vykonání genocidy v Bosně a Hercegovině. Cílem je přitom poukázat na fakt, že genocida Bosňáků nebyla neplánovaným činem či spontánní aktivitou jednotlivců, ale že se jednalo o plánovanou systematickou činnost, jejímž výsledkem mělo být zničení Bosňáků jako národní skupiny. Závěrečná část se pak zabývá porovnáním podobností a odlišností těchto dvou genocid. Práce přitom poukazuje na skutečnost, že jsou holocaust i bosenská genocida jeden a týž fenomén, pouze s jinou skupinou obětí a pachatelů.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the comparisson of two european genocides executed in the 20th century. Specifically it was the holocaust of Jews and the genocide of Bosnians – the comparisson of these two events represents the basis for better understanding of crimes, which Bosniaks were commited to. Under the introduction of the topic the first part of the thesis deals with the conceptual appreciation of the genocide idea and its distinction from other forms of mass killing. The attention is paid to society changes, which had affected the character of genocide. With the development of modern society the changes in perpetrator motivation had appeared and state institutions, bureaucratic apparat or science had been included into the extermination process. The other part of the diploma thesis deals with historical and ideological causes of holocaust. Subsequently it concentrates on the way of execution of this genocide. In the third part the socio-political reasons contributing to execution of the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina are analyzed. The aim is to show the fact, that the genocide of Bosnians wasn´t unpremeditated act or spontaneous activity of individuals, but planned systematic process, which was supposed to lead into extermination of Bosniaks as a national group. The last part deals with the comparisson of similarities and differences of both genocides. The thesis referes to the fact, that the holocaust and the genocide of Bosnians is the same phenomenon, only with different group of victims and perpetrators.
