Aspects of Individual and Group Integration of Pupils with Down Syndrome

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o různých hlediscích integrativního vzdělávání žáků s Downovým syndromem. Je členěna do čtyř kapitol. Obsah první kapitoly teoretické části se zabývá mentální retardací, příčinami jejího vzniku a její symptomatologií. Charakterizuje však také Downův syndrom a jeho specifika. Druhá kapitola nabízí přehled možností vzdělávání a poradenských služeb pro žáky s Downovým syndromem a dotýká se také jejich rodin. Třetí kapitola potom vymezuje pojmy inkluze a integrace, konkrétně individuální i skupinová, a umožňuje náhled do trendů vzdělávání žáků s postižením v několika evropských zemích. Empirická část diplomové práce má charakter kvalitativního výzkumu, který probíhal metodou případových studií čtyř žáků vzdělávaných formou individuální a skupinové integrace. Techniky použité při sběru dat byly analýza literatury a dokumentů, strukturovaný rozhovor a analýza dat získaných z těchto rozhovorů. Cílem diplomové práce bylo porovnat možnosti vzdělávání žáků s Downovým syndromem v rámci individuální a skupinové integrace na běžných základních školách a poskytnout tak rodičům dětí s tímto postižením názory matek, jejichž dítě již vzdělávacím procesem prochází, i pedagogů, kteří tyto žáky vzdělávají.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with three various aspects of integrative education of pupils with Down syndrome. It is divided into four chapters. Content of the first chapter of theoretical part deals with a mental retardation, causes of its occurance and its symptomatology, however it also characterizes Down syndrome and its specifics. The second chapter offers an overview of possibilities of education and advisory services for pupils with Down syndrome and it deals with their families too. The third chapter specifies terms of inclusion and integration, specifically the individual and the group ones, and it also facilitates an insight into education trends for handicapped pupils in several European countries. The empiric part of the abstract has an attribute of qualitative research which was conducted using a method of case studies of four pupils educated in the way of individual and group integration. Used techniques in the data collection were the analysis of literature and documents, a structured interview and data analysis acquired from these interviews. The objective of the thessis was to compare the possibilities of education of pupils with Down syndrome within the framework of individual and group integration at ordinary primary schools and thus to provide the parents of children with this kind of handicap opinions of both mothers whose children are already going through the educational process and educationalists who educate these children.
