Classical Mythology in the Works of Botticelli and Tizian

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá recepcí antické mytologie u dvou vybraných malířů italské renesance: Botticelliho a Tiziana. Po úvodním představení období renesance a humanismu a jejich specifik na území Itálie, se autorka dále věnuje představení osoby a tvorby florentského umělce Sandra Botticelliho a benátského malíře Tiziana. Hlavní část práce se zabývá analýzou obrazů Primavera od Botticelliho a Apollo a Marsyas od Tiziana, kde se autorka věnuje rozboru jednotlivých mytologických postav a následně interpretaci obrazů. V závěru práce autorka porovnává oba umělce a nachází v jejich tvorbě hlubší spojení - filozofii novoplatonismu.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis deals with the reflection of classical mythology in the works of two painters of the Italian Renaissance: Botticelli and Titian. First the period of Renaissance and Humanism and their specifics in the Italian Peninsula are briefly discussed; then the characters and works of the Florentian painter Sandro Botticelli and the Venetian painter Titian are presented. The main part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of Botticelli’s Primavera nad Titian’s Apollo and Marsyas. The author of the thesis analyzes the individual mythological figures and then focuses on the interpretation of the two paintings. At the end of the thesis, the author compares the two artists and discovers a deeper connection in their work – the philosophy of Neoplatonism.
