Russian Short Story from the Period 1985-2005: Overview, Style Streams, Translations, Commentaries

Abstract:

Literární procesy (ve spojitosti s politickými, ekonomickými a kulturními změnami) nabraly v Sovětském svazu po r. 1985 zcela nový směr. Uvolnění společenského klimatu je signalizováno oficiální publikací samizdatových, undergroundových textů, dříve prohibovaných. Paralelně vznikají texty nové. Povídková tvorba do tohoto kontextu logicky zapadá. V „tlustých žurnálech“ jsou tištěny povídky Jurije Mamlejeva, Vladimira Sorokina, Eduarda Limonova, obrovskou popularitu získává emigrant Sergej Dovlatov. Vycházejí sbírky povídek příslušnice vnitřní emigrace Ljudmily Petruševské. Viktor Jerofejev představuje ve sborníku „Ruské květy zla“ povídky Saši Sokolova, Vjačeslava Pjecucha, Igora Jarkeviče, Jevgenije Popova a řady dalších. Boris Jekimov vyhrává se svojí venkovskou povídkou ve stylu „tvrdého“ realismu „Nemusíš plakat“ cenu Jurije Kazakova za rok 2004. Charakter ruských povídkových textů posledních dvou desetiletí osciluje od realismu přes postmodernismus zpět k realismu. Signifikantním rysem povídek je časté narušování vyprávěcích struktur, hledání nových témat z „druhé břehu“, na druhé straně však i pokusy o zobrazování běžného dne v životě ruského člověka. Postmodernistické experimenty Lva Rubinštejna, variace na socialistická témata V. Sorokina jsou dokladem literárního vývoje, postupně však ztrácejí na výrazu a na jejich místo nastupuje realistická tvorba Olega Pavlova, I. Jarkeviče, nové povídkové sbírky J. Mamlejeva nebo L. Petruševské. „Šoková terapie“ je nahrazena realistickým zobrazováním problémů současného Ruska, jak je představuje např. válka v Čečensku, bída či alkoholismus.

Abstract:

The literary processes (in connection with political, economical and cultural changes) took completely new direction in the Soviet Union after the year 1985. Liberalization of society is marked by the official publication of samizdat, underground texts that used to be prohibited. At the same time, the new texts are emerging. Short story writing mesh into this context as well. The short stories by Yurij Mamleyev, Vladimir Sorokin, Eduard Limonov are published in the “thick magazines”, emigrant Sergei Dovlatov is growing in popularity. The short stories by Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, one of the inner emmigrants, are published. Viktor Yerofeyev presents in his anthology “Russian Flowers of Evil” short stories by Sasha Sokolov, Vjacheslav P'ecukh, Igor Jarkevic, Evgenii Popov and many more. Short story “Don't have to cry”, written in the hard reality style by Boris Yekimov, wins the Yurij Kazakov prize in the year 2004. The nature of the Russian short stories ranges from realism over postmodernism back to realism. The significant feature of the short stories is the violation of the narrative structures searching for the new topic from “the other side”. On the other hand there are also attempts to depict the ordinary day in the life of the Russian man. Postmodernost experiments by Lev Rubinstain and the variaton on the socialistic theme by V. Sorokin are evidences of the literary development. But slowly they are loosing their expression and their possitin is taken over by realistic works by Oleg Pavlov, I. Jarkevich and the new collections of short stories by J. Mamleyev or L. Petrushevskaya.”The shock therapy” is replaced by the realistic depiction of problems in today Russia e.g. the war in Chechnia, poverty or alcoholism.
