Future of tradition of sheep breeding in the middle Gemer

Abstract:

Tato práce se zajímá o budoucnost salašnictví v oblasti středního Gemera. Jedním z jejích hlavních cílů je nalézt současné faktory, které by mohly mít rozhodující vliv na budoucnost této tradiční formy zemědělství. Teoretická část práce popisuje historický a kulturní vliv salašnictví na Slovensku a na vybraném území. Protože práce pohlíží na salašnictví jako na tradici, je zde rovněž vysvětleno, zda, a jakým způsobem, můžeme o zemědělské činnosti přemýšlet jako o kulturním dědictví. Práce zohledňuje také vliv salašnictví na krajinu vybraného území a zabývá se problematikou s tímto související. Ústředním jádrem práce je kvalitativní výzkum a jeho výsledky. Rozhovory se současnými salašníky umožnují v této práci popsat jejich motivace a hodnoty spojené se salašnictvím. Ty jsou později porovnány s poznatky z teoretické části práce.

Abstract:

This work looks into the future of sheep farming in central Gemer, Slovakia. One of the main aims is to find recent factors, which could have deciding influence on the future of this traditional form of agriculture. Theoretical part of this work describes historical and cultural influence of sheep farming in Slovakia and central Gemer. Because this work sees sheep farming as a tradition, there is also explained if and how, we can view agriculture as a cultural heritage. The work also takes into consideration the influence of sheep farming on the environment of the mentioned area and addresses related issues. This work’s main basis is qualitative research and its outcome. Interviews with contemporary sheep farmers enabled to describe their motivation and values connected with sheep farming. Later on, the interviews are compared with findings from the theoretical part of this work.
