Moving through the city in the perspective of people with limited mobility

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na pohyb lidí s omezenou mobilitou (konkrétně vozíčkářů, seniorů a osob doprovázejících děti v kočárku) městským prostorem. Sleduje, jakým překážkám v pohybu tito lidé čelí a jak hodnotí jejich náročnost a možnost překonání a jaké požadavky na podobu prostoru pro snadný pohyb formulují. Dále zjišťuje, jak jsou tyto požadavky v souladu s tím, jak vypadá 2. část bezbariérové trasy č. 2 v Pardubicích, která byla pro lidi s omezenou mobilitou vytvořena. Pro získání odpovědi bylo využito kombinace několika metod a to: analýzy online zdrojů o bezbariérovosti v Pardubicích, pozorování na vybrané části trasy, polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a nestrukturovaných rozhovorů s procházkou po vybrané části bezbariérové trasy se zástupci všech tří kategorií a doplněných o pořizování fotografického materiálu. Práce na základě informací získaných těmito metodami odhaluje některé faktory, které vnímání a hodnocení pohybu po Pardubicích ovlivňují. Mimo očekávaného typu omezení mobility jsou to pak hlavně faktory jako je fyzická kondice, odhodlanost překonávat překážky či pomůcky (zařízení) v pohybu, které lidé s omezenou mobilitou využívají.

Abstract:

The purpose of this master’s thesis is to analyze mobility of people with limited mobility (specifically wheelchair and pram users, and elderly people) in municipal areas. The thesis monitors all the obstacles these people are facing and also focuses on how these people asses difficulties and possibilities how to overcome the obstacles and answers what their requirements and visions of easier mobility are. It is discovered how these requirements are in accordance with the second part of the wheelchair accessible path number two in Pardubice, that was created for the people with limited mobility. Several combined methods were used to obtain the answers, such as: analysis of the online resources about wheelchair accessibility in Pardubice, photo documentation taken during, both half-structured and structured interviews including walks on the previously mentioned wheelchair accessible path with the respondents from all of the three categories. The acquired information through the described methods reveals some factors that influence perception and evaluation of the mobility in Pardubice. With the exception of typical ways of limited mobility we need to take into consideration factors such as physical and health state and devotion to try get over the obstacles or managing to handle the support tools.
