Clothing industry in Czechia: spatial analysis

Abstract:

Cena oděvů v posledních několika dekádách znatelně klesá, což je způsobeno především stále intenzivnějším dovozem levných oděvů z Číny. Některým regionům s tradiční oděvní výrobou se podařilo tomuto tlaku odolat, některé značky se dokonce naučily z této změny profitovat, některé pak zanikly. Kromě bojů s levnými oděvy z Asie postihly oděvní průmysl další změny, jako globalizace, dohody o oděvním průmyslu, a v neposlední řadě i ekonomická krize, která právě na oděvní výrobu měla velmi znatelné dopady. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá rozmístěním oděvního průmyslu v rámci krajů Česka a zároveň i jeho rozmístěním v konkrétních regionech s vysokou mírou koncentrace této výroby. Data na úrovní ORP v Česku jsou zpracována za roky 1987, 2009 a 2013, a rozmístění výroby je tedy posuzováno za 25 let dlouhé období, během nějž výše zmíněné změny na oděvní průmysl působily. Rozmístění oděvního průmyslu bylo určeno pomocí komparativní analýzy zaměstnanosti mezi ORP v Česku a výsledky byly vizualizovány do podoby grafů a mapových výstupů. Data pro porovnávání zaměstnanosti byla získána z veřejné databáze Českého statistického úřadu.

Abstract:

The price of clothes has been noticeably decreasing in the past few decades, which is mainly caused by increasingly intensive imports of cheap clothing from China. Some regions with the tradition of clothing production managed to resist this pressure, some brands actually found a way to benefit from this transformation, and some have disappeared. Besides fighting the cheap clothing from Asia, the clothing industry has been affected by other changes such as globalisation, agreements on the clothing industry, and last but not least the economic crisis, which had a very significant impact on the clothing production. This bachelor thesis deals with the distribution of clothing industry within Czechia regions, and at the same time with its distribution in specific regions with a high degree of concentration of this production. The data at the level of municipalities with extended competence (ORP) in Czechia are processed for the years 1987, 2009 and 2013, and the distribution of the production is thereby assessed during a 25 years long period, during which the clothing industry has been influenced by the above stated changes. The distribution of the clothing industry was determined by a comparative analysis of employment rate between the municipalities in Czechia, and the results were visualised in the form of graphs and map outputs. The data used for comparing employment rates were obtained from the public database of the Czech Statistical Office.
