Applications of mobile GIS for thematic mapping

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá aplikacemi mobilních zařízení použitelných při tematickém mapování a návrhem mobilní a webové aplikace pro potřeby Chráněné krajinné oblasti Moravský kras. Rešeršní část se věnuje souhrnu komerčních a volně dostupných mobilních aplikací, vč. jejich použití v praxi. Pilotní projekt popisuje návrh struktury, softwarové řešení a následné testování mobilní a webové aplikace pro sběr dat v terénu. Cílem bylo zhodnotit dosavadní programové možnosti pro tematické mapování a navrhnout způsob, jak přistoupit k datasetu návštěvnické infrastruktury, uzávěrů jeskyní a skládek, aby jej mohli uživatele jednoduše upravovat a přidávat do něj informace o kontrolách. Vybrány byly technologie firmy ESRI, konkrétně Collector for ArcGIS a Web AppBuilder, které mohou využít dataset uložený na cloudu a které jsou uživatelsky přívětivé pro editací prvků. Příslušník stráže přírody si stáhne aplikaci do „smart“ zařízení a přímo v terénu zadává kontroly, které skrze mobilní signál posílá přímo na cloud. Pokud tímto zařízením uživatel nedisponuje, může si na svém počítači zobrazit webovou aplikaci, jejíž funkcionalita je totožná.

Abstract:

This Diploma Thesis focuses on mobile applications used for thematic mapping and the design of the mobile and web application usable by members of the protected landscape area of Moravský kras. The commercial and freely available mobile software as well as its practical usage is summarized in the research part of this thesis. In the pilot part of the project, the description of the structure design, software solution and mobile as well as web application testing is listed. This was done in order to evaluate the current possibilities of thematic mapping and to suggest the way to access the dataset of visitor infrastructure, cave closures and illegal dumps. Such dataset would be easily editable by users and accessible for checks information addition. The ESRI technologies, namely Collector for ArcGIS and Web AppBuilder, were chosen for this purpose. This software encompasses a user-friendly interface for feature editing and is capable of usage of the dataset stored in cloud. The respective landscape protector can therefore use the application installed in a smart device to easily add information about undergone checks directly in the field. The data are subsequently sent to the cloud via device’s internet connection. Users without such smart device can instead use the web application whose functionality is identical.
