Russian doping scandal - reaction of international sports organizations

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje státně podporovaný doping v Rusku. Konkrétněji pak reakce dvou klíčových organizací bojujících za čistotu sportu, tedy Světové antidopingové agentury a Mezinárodního olympijského výboru, na něj. Práce v pěti kapitolách přibližuje historický vývoj užívání dopingu, v souvislosti s tím vývoj antidopingové politiky na boj proti němu. Dále popisuje zakázané látky a metody využívané ve sportu a odhalení samotného ruského dopingového skandálu. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak na odhalení kauzy reagovaly dvě zmíněné mezinárodní sportovní organizace, proč doping v Rusku fungoval několik let bez jejich povšimnutí a na základě čeho rozhodovaly o následných sankcích pro Rusko. Mimoto analyzuje také propojení státem řízeného užívání dopingu v Rusku s nástroji veřejné diplomacie.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyzes state-sponsored doping in Russia. Concretely the reactions to it of two key organizations fighting for the "cleanliness" of sport, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee. In five chapters this thesis focuses on the historical background of the use of doping in sport and in relation to that the development of the anti-doping policy for the fight against it. Then it describes the prohibited substances and methods commonly used in sport and the revelation of the Russian doping scandal. The main goal of the thesis is to find out, how the two aforementioned international sports organizations reacted to the revelation of the scandal, why has doping in Russia worked for several years unnoticed and on the basis of what these organizations decided about the subsequent sanctions for Russia. Moreover the thesis analyzes the connection between the use of state-sponsored doping in Russia and the instruments of public diplomacy.
