Representative public architecture in Nitra 1850-1914

Abstract:

The main topic on which the diploma thesis is focused on is selected group of architectural monuments of representative public architecture in Nitra in the period between 1850–1914. The content of the work focuses on five buildings, which were selected on the basis of their importance and period function within the city, as well as their morphological diversity. The selection of monuments covers the period of the 70s, 80s, 90s of the 19th century, the turn of the century and the first decade of the 20th century. The focus of the work is the County House, the Palace of Justice, the Town House (former town hall building), the Municipal (County) Theater and the Synagogue. The work aims to examine selected monuments in terms of urbanism and architecture of the city and thus contribute to the issue of Nitra architecture. An important part of the work is to subject selected buildings to analysis and subsequent interpretation, as well as their placement in a broader context within the Hungarian architecture.

Abstract:

Hlavnou témou, na ktorú sa diplomová práca zameriava je vybraná skupina architektonických pamiatok reprezentatívnej verejnej architektúry v Nitre v období medzi rokmi 1850–1914. Obsah práce sa sústreďuje na päť stavieb, ktoré boli zvolené na základe ich dôležitosti a dobovej funkcie v rámci mesta, ako aj ich tvaroslovnú pestrosť. Výberom pamiatok je pokryté časové obdobie 70., 80., 90. rokoy 19. storočia, prelom storočí a prvé desaťročie 20. storočia. Ťažiskom práce sa stal Župný dom, Justičný palác, Mestský dom (bývalá budova radnice), Mestské (Župné) divadlo a Synagóga. Práca si dáva za cieľ preskúmať vybrané pamiatky z hľadiska urbanizmu a architektúry mesta a prispieť tak k problematike nitrianskej architektúry. Dôležitou súčasťou práce je podrobiť vybrané stavby analýze a následnej interpretácii, ako aj ich zasadenie do širšieho kontextu v rámci uhorskej architektúry.
