The Role of Small States in the European union. Analysis of Austrian position

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je analýza postavení a role malých států v Evropské unii na poli bezpečnostně-zahraniční politiky. Největší pozornost bude zaměřena na schopnosti a metody prosazování jejich zájmů v této oblasti oproti velkým státům EU. Hlavní hypotézou bude tvrzení, že se obecné vzorce v hlavních rysech neliší od chování na úrovni EU. Teoretická část bude poté aplikována na bezpečnostně-zahraniční politiku Rakouska. Dílčí hypotéza bude formulována tvrzením, že Rakousko je klasickým malým státem v prostředí EU.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s work is concerned with the position and role of small states in the European Union on area of foreign and security policy. The attention is focused on capabilities and methods to enforce their interest in this area in comparison with large states of the European Union. The main hypothesis of the work is that the general features of small states’ behaviors are not different from their behaviors on the level of the European Union. Theoretical part of this work will be applying to the Austrian foreign and security policy. The partial hypothesis of this work is formulated in the following thesis: Austria is the typical small state in the environment of EU.
