Czech central bank intervention in the currency market and the development of aggregate variables: Comprehensive Analysis

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl popsat a zhodnotit devizové intervence České národní banky, s trváním od 7. listopadu 2013 do 6. dubna 2017. Práce je rozdělena do části teoretické a části praktické. První část obsahuje obecný popis teorie měnové politiky a fungování centrálního bankovnictví, zejména se zaměřením na devizové intervence a kurzový závazek. Dále jsou popsány názory a argumenty pro a proti těmto intervencím z řad odborné veřejnosti a politiků. Toto je nezbytné pro pochopení a vyvození závěrů z druhé části, která se zabývá zejména vývojem ekonomických ukazatelů v letech 2010 až 2016. Tento vývoj je porovnán s vývojem stejných ukazatelů v dalších evropských zemích, ve kterých však neprobíhaly devizové intervence.

Abstract:

The point of this thesis is describe and evaluate foreign-exchange interventions of Czech National Bank, which lasted from from 7 November 2013 to 6 April 2017. Thesis is divided in theoretical part and practical part. First part contains general description of the theory of monetary policy and the functioning of central banking, in particular with regard to foreign-exchange interventions and exchange rate commitment. In addition, the views and arguments for and against these interventions from the professional public and politicians are described. This is necessary for understanding and drawing conclusions from the second part, which deals in particular with the development of economic indicators between 2010 and 2016. This development is compared with the development of the same indicators in other European countries, where foreign-exchange interventions were not applied.
