Abstract:

Práce se zabývá tématem výuky výslovnosti v oblasti výuky anglického jazyka a zpracováním výuky výslovnosti v anglických učebnicích. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, zdali učebnice poskytují učitelům i studentům dostatečnou oporu ve výuce výslovnosti a výukových materiálech. Práce analyzuje rozdíly mezi češtinou a angličtinou na fonetické úrovni a snaží se odhalit možné nesnáze vyplývající z těchto rozdílů. Práce se též zabývá donedávna častým jevem, a to zanedbáváním výslovnosti ve výuce angličtiny, které může způsobit zhoršenou komunikační způsobilost studenta. Práce zkoumá možný vliv úspěšné výuky výslovnosti na další jazykové schopnosti, především porozumění poslechu. Dále je zkoumán možný vliv akcentů a dialektů na výuku výslovnosti. Závěrečná část se zabývá hodnocením nástrojů, které používají učebnice v současnosti dostupné na českém trhu. Učebnice jsou hodnoceny na základě schopnosti úspěšně předat jak segmentální tak suprasegmentální prostředky výslovnosti, tak i opakování těchto jevů. Stejně tak je hodnocena grafická úprava, přehlednost a jednota rozvržení obsahu a jednotlivých lekcí. Hodnoceny jsou též instrukce v příručce pro učitele a různorodost dialektů v poslechových cvičeních.

Abstract:

The thesis investigates the issues of pronunciation teaching in the ELT field and the pronunciation tools used in ELT textbooks. The main of the thesis is to investigate, whether the textbooks provide enough tools and materials for the teachers and learners alike. The thesis investigates the differences between Czech and English on the phonetic level and provides insights into possible issues that might occur during teaching English to Czech learners. The thesis investigates the past negligence of pronunciation in teaching and how it affects the learners' ability to successfully communicate in their L2. The thesis also investigates the effect of successful pronunciation training on other language skills, namely the listening comprehension. The effect of accents on pronunciation training is examined as well in the theoretical part. The final part of the thesis is focused on the evaluation of four textbooks, which are currently available in Czech Republic. The books are evaluated based on their ability to provide a meaningful way of teaching both segmentals and suprasegmentals, revision, instructions and the graphical fidelity and comprehensibility of the books' layout. Teacher's book instructions are also evaluated as well as the accent variety present in the listening tasks.
