Grammatical gender in Portuguese and Spanish: a comparative study of gender of nouns with the identical morphological and etymological structure

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to find similarities and differences in the grammatical category of gender in Portuguese and Spanish. As a source material for this research, the Portuguese-Spanish dictionary Dicionário Editora de Português-Espanhol - Acordo Ortográfico, Porto Editora was used. The work is divided into two parts. The first part is a summary of theoretical knowledge about the noun and the grammatical gender. The second part is practical, where we compare the gender of nouns in Portuguese and Spanish from the morphological point of view.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je najít shody a rozdíly v gramatické kategorii rodu v portugalském a španělském jazyce. Zdrojovým materiálem pro toto zkoumání byl použit portugalsko-španělský slovník Dicionário Editora de Português-Espanhol - Acordo Ortográfico, Porto Editora. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část je teoretické shrnutí poznatků o substantivu a gramatickém rodu. Druhá část je praktická, kde z morfologického hlediska porovnáváme rod substantiv v portugalském a španělském jazyce.
