Ve své sbírce povídek, Ztracená tvář, Jack London vykresluje kruté prostředí divočiny, ve kterém odolnost a schopnosti postav jsou podrobeny mnohým zkouškám. Na základě extrémních, byť pravdivých okolností, London poukazuje na paradox velké síly a dokazuje, že žádná moc není bez hranic. In his collection of short stories, Lost Face, Jack London creates a cruel, wild setting in which the capability and adaptability of the characters are tested. London demonstrates the paradox of great physical strength, as he proves that no power exists without confines.
