Transformation of Media Construction of Successfull Woman: comparative discourse analysis

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se zabývá mediálním obrazem úspěšné ženy a jeho proměnou. Cílem práce bude zjistit, jaká kritéria úspěšného života jsou konstruována v českém ženském časopise. Analyzovaným materiálem jsou články lifestylového časopisu Vlasta, a to ročníky 1952, 1975, 1994 a 2010. Jako metodu jsem zvolila diskurzivní analýzu. V teoretické části vyjasňuji pojmy, jako jsou sociální a mediální konstrukce reality, reprezentace, ideologie a hegemonie, stereotypy, charakterizuji lifestylový časopis a vymezuji koncepty, skrze které je artikulován úspěch. Na tomto teoretickém základě vytvářím design výzkumu, pokládám výzkumné otázky a vybírám zkoumaný vzorek a metodu analýzy. Zjistila jsem, že obraz ženského úspěchu částečně kopíruje dobové diskurzy artikulované politickým systémem a společenskou situací. Děje se tak prostřednictvím konkrétních forem, kterých úspěch nabývá. Zároveň je ale v analyzovaném materiálu napříč všemi obdobími shodně proklamována idea téměř dokonalé ženy, která bravurně skloubí všechny své pracovní i rodinné povinnosti, a ta je jednotlivým zobrazením úspěchu nadřazena.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is concerned with the media image (and its transformation) of successfull woman. The aim of the thesis is to analyze, which criteria of a successfull living are constructed in czech woman magazine Vlasta, in years 1952, 1975, 1994 and 2010. The method of discourse analysis is used. In theoretical part of this thesis important concepts are introduced, including the social construction of reality, media representation, ideology, stereotypes, lifestyle magazine and concepts, which the success is articulated through. On this theoretical basis I’m designing the research, ask questions and picking particular texts to analysis and used method. Research findings depict the image of successfull woman as related to the social and political discourses of a particular period in which success is articulated through concrete forms. But simultaneously the idea of an excellent woman (who is able to manage her family and career with no mistake) emerges crosswise the analyzed texts. And particular media images of success are subordinated to this idea.
