On k-thin and thin-strip graph classes

Tzv. interval grafy jsou známou podtřídou tzv. intersection grafů, které byly podrobně studovány. Jednou z nejznámějších podtříd interval grafů jsou tzv. proper interval grafy. V článku [The stable set problem and the thinness of a graph] C. Mannino a kol. definovali parametr grafů tzv. thinness. Tento parametr byl stanoven na základě některých vlastností interval grafů, přičemž třída grafů, jejichž thinness je rovno jedné, se rovná třídě interval grafů. V článku [On thinness and proper thinness of a graph] definoval Diego de Estrada parametr grafů tzv. proper thinness na základě proper interval grafů. Balabán a kol. tyto parametry zobecnili v práci [Twin-width and Transductions of Proper k-Mixed-Thin Graphs] na tzv. (proper) mixed-thin grafy, které využili pro další výzkum týkající se tzv. twin-width. V této práci porovnáváme zmíněné třidy grafů s tzv. třídou thin strip grafů definovanou T. Hayashim a kol. v práci [Thin strip graphs], která je rovněž zobecněním proper interval grafů. Naše práce se zaměřuje především na otázku, zda (proper) thinness a (proper) mixed-thinness jsou na třídě tenkých páskových grafů omezené, či neomezené.

Abstract:

Interval graphs are a well-known subclass of intersection graphs that have been studied extensively. One of the most well-known subclasses of interval graphs are proper interval graphs. In [The stable set problem and the thinness of a graph], C. Mannino et al. defined a parameter of graphs called thinness. This parameter was established based on some properties of interval graphs, where the class of graphs with thinness one equals to the class of interval graphs. In [On the thinness and proper thinness of a graph], Diego de Estrada defined a parameter of graphs called proper thinness based on proper interval graphs. Balabán et al. generalized these parameters in [Twin-width and Transductions of Proper k-Mixed-Thin Graphs] into (proper) mixed-thin graphs, which they used for further research regarding so-called twin-width. In this work, we compare the former to the class of thin strip graphs defined by T. Hayashi et al. in [Thin strip graphs], which is a generalization of proper interval graphs as well. Our work mainly focuses on the question of whether (proper) thinness and (proper) mixed-thinness are bounded or unbounded on the class of thin strip graphs.
