Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis undertakes a comprehensive examination of the economic measures implemented by Margaret Thatcher between 1979-1987 that were aimed at revitalizing the economy of the United Kingdom. The study delves into the economic landscape prevalent in the UK at the commencement of Thatcher's tenure as the Prime Minister. To understand the background, it explores the dominant economic philosophies of that era, such as for example neoliberalism in which Thatcher often sought inspiration. It further introduces the pivotal instruments utilized by Thatcher's government to kickstart the British economy and subsequently explores the economic and social impacts of the policies implemented by the first female British Prime Minister. Through an in-depth analysis of specialized and academic literature, the thesis seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of the Thatcher era's political initiatives and their lasting effects (such for example privatization of most nationalized industries and the weaking of trade unions) on the United Kingdom's economic and social trajectory.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá komplexním zkoumáním ekonomických opatření zavedených Margaret Thatcherovou v letech 1979-1987, jejichž cílem bylo oživit ekonomiku Spojeného království. Studie se zabývá ekonomickým prostředím, které ve Spojeném království převládalo na počátku působení Margaret Thatcherové ve funkci premiérky. Pro pochopení pozadí zkoumá dominantní ekonomické filozofie té doby, jako byl například neoliberalismus, v němž Thatcherová často hledala inspiraci. Dále představuje stěžejní nástroje, které vláda paní Thatcherové využila k nastartování britské ekonomiky, a následně zkoumá ekonomické a sociální důsledky politiky prováděné první ženou na postu britské premiérky. Prostřednictvím hloubkové analýzy odborné a vědecké literatury se práce snaží poskytnout diferencované porozumění politickým iniciativám Thatcherové éry a jejich trvalým dopadům (jako je například privatizace většiny znárodněných průmyslových odvětví a oslabení odborů) na ekonomickou a sociální trajektorii Spojeného království.
