The University of the Third Age as a Form of the Activation of Seniors

Abstract:

Stárnutí populace je celosvětovým problémem. Velké pokroky v medicíně ve zdra-votní péči i celkové společenské změny se přenášejí na člověka a přinášejí pro něj příznivé změny ve zdravotním stavu. Tím se zároveň posouvají hranice stáří. I když se tyto změny ve složení společnosti projeví později, je nutné se připravit na řešení problémů, které mají souvislost s kvalitou života v seniorském věku. Teorie aktivního stárnutí říká, že i ve stáří jsou zachovány potřeby středního věku, zejména potřeba udržovat se aktivním, mít pocit užitečnosti. Současná generace lidí v období pozdní dospělosti je mnohdy zcela soběstačná a její zájem o zapojení do společenských aktivit je velký. Jedním ze způsobů, jak zvyšovat kvalitu života je právě vzdělávání a to zejména vzdělávání na úrovni Univerzit třetího věku. Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit, jaká je motivace senaiorů navštěvovat Univerzity třetího věku a jaký má tato forma celoživotního vzdělávání dopad na zvýšení kvality jich života. Cílem teoretické části diplomové práce bylo z odborné literatury vymezit seniory, jako specifickou sociální skupinu. Definovat stáří v oblasti sociální, psychologické i fyzické. Dále se zabývat kvalitou života seniorů a s tím spojený vliv vzdělávání. Cílem kvantitativního výzkumu v metodologické části bylo formou dotazníku zjistit, jak seniorům vyhovuje nabídka kurzů U3V, jak se zlepšila kvalita jejich života vlivem návštěv U3V a jaké navázali nové sociální vztahy díky studiu na U3V.

Abstract:

Ageing of the population is a problem widespread across the world. Great develo-pment in medicine, in health care and global social changes carry over people and they bring positive changes of health. At the same time, it moves a border of the old age. Even so the changes of population structure will become evident later, it is necessary for us to get ready for a solution of the problems relating with life quality during the retired age. According to the theory of active ageing, the needs of mid-age are kept in old age, espe-cially the demand to be active all the time, to have a sense of usefulness. The current gene-ration of people in later adult age is very often fully self-sustaining and their interest in participating in social activities is big. One of the ways how to enhance the life quality is just an education, namely the education on the level of Universities of Third Age. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to find which is the motivation of older peo-ple to attend courses of the University of Third Age and which impact has got this form of life-long learning on increasing their life quality. The goal of the theoretical part of the diploma thesis was to define on the base of scholarly literature - older people as a specific social group. To define the older age in the social, psychological and physical spheres. Be concerned with the life quality of retired people and with the influence of education to their life. The goal of the quantitative survey in the methodological part was to find through questionnaire how corresponds the offer of courses of the University of Third Age with retired people´s needs, which effect brought the attending of the University of Third Age on their life-enhancing and which new social relations they established thanks the study at the University of Third Age.
