Relation between attachment and preferred characteristics when selecting romantic partner during young adulthood.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda se nachází vztah mezi citovou vazbou získanou v dětství a představou o požadovaném partnerském vztahu, a zda se tato představa projevuje na konkrétní rovině preferencí konkrétních vlastností při výběru romantického partnera. Tato souvislost bude zkoumána v kontextu mladší dospělosti (20 - 30 let). Kvůli možnosti získání velkého vzorku, byl výzkum realizován pomocí internetového dotazníku. Pro zjištění citové vazby byla použita škála k matce a otci z dotazníku RSQ (Relationships Structures Questionnaire). Cronbachovo alfa dosahovalo u tohoto dotazníku pro všechny škály hodnoty větší než 0,7. Pro zjištění preferovaných vlastností partnera byl pro tyto účely nově vytvořen dotazník. Výsledky byly analyzovány pomocí korelační analýzy na dimenzionální úrovni. Na kategoriální úrovni byla použita ANOVa a post-hoc testy. Bylo zjištěno, že preference mezi muži a ženami se signifikantně liší a proto byly všechny výsledky ověřovány pro obě pohlaví odděleně. Pro většinu preferencí byla nalezena slabá korelace s dimenzí vyhýbavosti nebo úzkostnosti v souladu s hypotézami. I na kategoriální úrovni byly zjištěny některé signifikantní rozdíly pro ambivalentní, jisté a vyhýbavé jedince. Všechny tyto vztahy však byly poměrně slabé, proto nelze říct, že by preference partnera byla silně ovlivňována získaným typem citové vazby k rodičům.

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to find out if there is a relation between attachment gained in the childhood and the concept of a preferred relationship. Also to find out if this concept affects particular preferences when choosing a romantic partner. This relation will be examined in the context of young adulthood (20 - 30 years). Because of the need of a relatively large sample the research was done by the Internet questionnaire. Scales from the RSQ (Relationships Structures Questionnaire) were used to asses attachment to mother and father. Cronbach alfa for all the scales reached values greater than 0.7. A new questionnaire was created to investigate the preferred characteristics of a romantic partner. The results were analysed by the correlation analysis on the dimensional level. The analysis on the categorical level was done by the ANOVa and post-hoc tests. It was found that preferences were significantly different between men and women. Therefore the results were analysed separately for both sexes. Weak correlations for the avoidance and anxiety scales were found for most of the preferences that were consistent with the hypothesises. Some significant differences were also found on the categorical level for secure, ambivalent and avoidant subjects. All these differences were relatively weak. That is why it cannot be said that partner preferences are strongly affected by the type of attachment to parents.
