Idiomatic expressions in French and in English: a comparative study

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis compares English and French idiomatic expressions. The content is divided into four parts, the first of which works with the definitions of the terms "idiom" and "idiotism", the second with the typology of idiomatic expressions, the third with the etymology of the terms "idiom" and "idiotism" and with the history of idiomatic expressions of both languages, and the last part examines in detail the differences chosen animals - cat and dog - using the comparative method and distinguishing the three types of the lexical equivalence: absolute, none and partial.

Abstract:

Le mémoire de licence compare les expressions idiomatiques anglaises et françaises. Le contenu est divisé en quatre parties, dont la premi?re travaille avec les définitions des termes ? idiome ? et ? idiotisme ?, la deuxi?me avec la typologie des expressions, la troisi?me avec l'étymologie des termes ? idiome ? et ? idiotisme ? et avec l'histoire des expressions idiomatiques des deux langues, et la derni?re partie examine en détail les différences et les ressemblances des cinq expressions françaises et leurs équivalents anglais concernant chaque des deux animaux choisis - le chat et le chien - utilisant la méthode comparative et distinguant les trois types de l'équivalence lexicale : absolue, aucune et partielle.
