Abstract:

Bakalářská práce analyzuje pohled dvou amerických politologů na současnou americkou identitu – konzervativce Patricka J. Buchanana a politického teoretika Samuela P. Huntingtona, jejichž díla, vydaná po 11. září 2001, rozpoutala četné diskuse nejen ve Spojených státech amerických, ale i v Evropě. Je americká identita skutečně v ohrožení a hrozí vymření Západu v souvislosti s přílivem přistěhovalců do Spojených států i Evropy a klesající porodností? Oba autoři si myslí, že ano, ale narážíme na problémy se samotnou definicí: „Kdo jsou Američané?“. V práci je nastíněno pojetí evropské identity, jež kontrastuje s identitou americkou a přehled současných témat amerických politických teorií.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s work The American and European identity after 11th September 2001 analyses a view of two political scientists about contemporary American identity – conservative Patrick J. Buchanan and political theorist Samuel P. Huntington, whose works were published after 11th September 2001 and are being discussed not only in the United States but also in the Europe. Is the American identity really endangered and is the West close to die out due to large immigration to the United States and Europe, and decreasing natality? Both authors think so, but we are facing a problem with definition: “Who are Americans?”. This thesis outlines the meaning of the European identity in contrast with an American, and it provides a summary of modern American political theories.
