Non-profit organizations in contemporary Russian society: a political analysis

Abstract:

Tato práce je věnována politické analýze neziskových organizací v moderním Rusku. Teoretická část práce obsahuje stručný historický přehled formování občanské společnosti v Rusku. Velká pozornost je soustředěna na období Sovětského svazu kvůli jeho komplexnímu vlivu na další formování sociálních hnutí a charakteru vztahu „Moc-NNO“. Období moderního Ruska je považováno za dobu tvorby legislativních aktů regulujících činnost nevládních organizací. Analytická část je věnována hledání klíčových faktorů transformace NNO v opoziční celek prostřednictvím studia jednotlivých neziskových organizací Memorial, FBK a Levada Centra. Organizace jsou zařazeny na seznam zahraničních agentů, který podle ruských zákonů ukládá omezení jejich činnosti. Bylo zjištěno několik hlavních důvodů, proč se nevládní organizace stávají součástí opozičního hnutí v Rusku.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to the political analysis of non-profit organizations in modern Russia. The theoretical part of the work includes a brief historical overview of the formation of civil society in Russia. Much attention is paid to the period of the Soviet Union due to its comprehensive influence on the further formation of social movements and the nature of the “Power-NGO” relationship. The period of modern Russia is considered as the formation of legislative acts regulating the activities of NGOs. The analytical part is devoted to the search for key factors in the transformation of NGOs into an opposition unit through the study of individual non-profit organizations of the Memorial, FBK and Levada Centre. The organizations are included in the list of foreign agents, which, according to Russian law, imposes restrictions on their activities. Several main reasons have been identified in connection with which NGOs have become a part of the opposition movement in Russia.
