Position of Australian Aborigines in history

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá postavením domorodého obyvatelstva Austrálie od počátku příchodu bílých evropských kolonizátorů po současnost. Původní obyvatelé byli do konce 18. století jedinými obyvateli australského kontinentu. Od té doby se jejich status výrazně změnil. Už nebyli pány své země, museli se o ni podělit s prvními britskými osadníky, jejichž počet během let narůstal. Střety s bílými Evropany na sebe nenechaly dlouho čekat. Obě komunity se vedle sebe začaly cítit v ohrožení, a tak postupně docházelo od potyček až k masakrům. Proto bylo potřeba zavést právo, které by upravovalo vztahy mezi domorodým obyvatelstvem a Evropany. Z počátku bylo dost striktní. V jednotlivých státech Austrálie se s původním obyvatelstvem zacházelo jinak, ale dá se všeobecně říct, že špatně. Až novodobé dějiny znamenaly výrazný pokrok směrem k sebeurčení domorodého obyvatelstva.

Abstract:

This following bachelor thesis deals with theme Position of Australian Aborigines since the early arrival of white European colonists to the present. The Aborigins were in the late 18th century the only inhabitants of the Australian continent. Since then, their status changed significantly. They weren?t masters of their own country anymore, because they had to share it with British settlers and the number of these settlers was rising. Clashes with the white Europeans did not take long to wait. Both communities are next to each other began feeling threatened, and so on from the skirmishes took place to the massacres. It was necessary to implement some kind of law that would govern the relations between Aborigines and Europeans. In the beginning was quite strict. In every single state of Australia was treated with Aborigines differently, but we can generally say that it was bad. Up to the recent history it meant the significant progress towards self-determination of Aborigines.
