The main aim of this thesis is to analyze and identify elements of magical realism in contemporary Mexican cinema. The first part of this work provides an overview of magical realism throughout history to provide context to the analyses of the works by three Mexican filmmakers: Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Guillermo del Toro.
