Who are Czech non-believers? Hidden belief.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Kdo jsou čeští nevěřící. Skrytá víra.“ se snaží odhalit stopy a podoby víry mezi populací českých nevěřících. K sekundární statistické analýze je zde použit datový soubor mezinárodní komparativní studie hodnot European Value Study uskutečněné v roce 1999. Provedené analýzy jsou zaměřeny na odhalení víry u populace, která sama sebe označila ve výzkumu za nevěřící či atheisty. Dále je pak tato víra zkoumána na základě vybraných sociodemografických charakteristik. Celá studie se snaží odhalit závislost míry a podoby víry na věku, pohlaví, nejvyšším dosaženém stupni vzdělání a na velikosti sídla místa bydliště. Z provedeného statistického zjišťování bylo možné dospět k jednoznačným závěrům jen ve dvou případech, a to v případě potvrzení hypotézy o tom, že u českých nevěřících je možné nalézt víru v podobě alternativní religiozity. A dále pak, že religiozita žen v populaci nevěřících je vyšší než religiozita mužů. Pro potvrzení ostatních hypotéz se ukázaly indikátory dotazníku EVS nedostatečné a není proto možné dospět k jednoznačnému odmítnutí či přijetí hypotéz. V oblasti závislosti víry na vzdělání a věku by bylo nutné pro podporu hypotéz provést další měření. Za cennou informaci lze považovat výsledek měření závislosti víry nevěřících na velikosti sídla místa bydliště, kde nebyl nalezen žádný vztah a zdá se, že oproti celé populaci, kde platí, že lidé žijící v menších sídlech jsou zbožnější, v populaci nevěřících tato pravidelnost zaznamenána nebyla.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis called “Who Are Czech Non-belivers. Hidden Belief” is trying to reveal traces and forms of faith among Czech atheistic population. Secondary statistic analysis is based on international comparative data file known as European Value Study (1999). Performed analyses are focused on revealing of belief among population that marked itself as atheistic. Furthermore, the believ is investigated on base of particular socio-demographic characteristics. The entire thesis is trying to reveal relations among belief-level, belief-form and age, gender, education and size of hometown. The statistic research I made defined only two conclusions. The first conclusion says that there is an alternative religion present among Czech atheists. The second conclusion says that alternative religion is more often to find among women atheists rather than among men atheists. Indicators of EVS survey then showed to be insufficient to confirm other hypothesis so I wasn’t able to unambiguously accept or reject them. In the area of relation between faith and education, there is a need to implement further surveys. Very valuable information extracted from my thesis is that there is no apparent relation between belief of atheists and population of a size of their hometown. That contrasts with the relation between belief of believers and town sizes. In this case, countryside shows higher concentration of believers then towns.
