Presentation of nonconformist artists and activities in Domov magazine (1960–1989)

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl zmapovat progresivní publikační činnost socialistického periodika Domov s ohledem na proměnlivé politické a kulturní klima sledovaného časového rozmezí let 1960 až 1989. Z počátku bylo hlavní náplní časopisu vzdělávání v oblasti bytové kultury a výchova estetického cítění socialistické společnosti. V souladu s politickou liberalizací šedesátých let 20. století začal časopis informovat o aktuálním uměleckém dění a nových výtvarných směrech, jež neodpovídaly konzervativním představám komunistického diktátu. Navzdory srpnové okupaci roku 1968 a následné normalizaci nedošlo k přerušení publikace pokrokových témat, nicméně se objevovaly spíše sporadicky. V práci jsou identifikovány progresivní články, rozebírán jejich informačním obsah a analyzována obrazové příloha. V neposlední řadě je věnován prostor komparaci s obsahem dalších soudobých uměleckých periodik.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to map the progressive publishing activity of the socialist periodical Domov regarding the changing political and cultural climate of the established period between 1960 and 1989. Initially, the magazine focused on educating socialist readers about housing culture and contemporary aesthetics. However, as political liberalization occurred in the 1960s, the magazine began reporting on current artistic events and new art styles that did not align with conservative communist ideals. Despite the August occupation of 1968 and the normalization years that followed, these progressive topics were still included in the magazine, though less frequently. The thesis identifies these progressive segments, analyses their content and image appendix, and compares them to contemporary art periodicals.
