NOBILITY IN THE CHANGES. TRANSFORMATION OF SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC STRUCTURES IN 1918-1948.

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zaměřuje na výzkum proměny postavení šlechty v procesu rozsáhlé společenské transformace po pádu habsburské monarchie. Práce se zaměřuje na rozbor strukturálních změn ve společnosti v rozmezí let 1918 až 1948 z hlediska politického, ekonomického a sociálního, na strategie šlechty, které kolektivně i individuálně její příslušníci používali za účelem zachování svého postavení a v neposlední řadě na reflexi daných proměn společnosti po roce 1918 prizmatem šlechty. Klade si otázku, zda se v důsledku těchto společenských posunů měnila samotná šlechta a jak proměnu vnějších struktur vnímala. ?Vnitřní svět? šlechticů, jejich vnímání společenské situace i sebe sama, byl rekonstruován na základě analýzy ego-dokumentů.

Abstract:

The dissertation aims at tracking the changes in the status of the nobility during the process of extensive social transformation after the fall of the Habsburg monarchy. The dissertation deals with the themes of the ability of the nobility and the level of adaption to entirely new life conditions in Czechoslovakia in 1918-1948. The dissertation tracks the change of external background after the fall of monarchy through the prism of the nobility, which perceived the formation of democratic republic as the end of old order and the loss of the former status. However, the members of the nobility were not passive in accepting the interventions against their privileges and property; they used a number of strategies aiming to reduce the effects of such measures. In particular, this paper focuses on the strategies for retaining their estates used by the nobility. Moreover, the dissertation aims to find out whether the nobility itself transformed as a result of such social shifts and how they perceived the changes of external structures. ?The internal world? of the noblemen, their perception of social situation and themselves, has been reconstructed on the basis of the analysis of ego-documents.
