Democracy in economic alternatives – theory versus practice

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem ekonomických alternativ a navazuje na výzkum „Formy a hodnoty alternativních ekonomických praktik v České republice“ z let 2014–2016. Zaměřuje se na jednu z pěti základních charakteristik ekonomických alternativ – demokracii. Cílem práce je zjistit, jaká je role demokratické struktury, řízení a rozhodování ve vybraných ekonomických alternativách, jak je zakotvena v jejich zakládajících dokumentech, jak ji reflektují jejich zástupci a jak se ji daří naplňovat v praxi. Výzkumný vzorek tvoří celkem 25 ekonomických alternativ ve formě družstva a spolku. Empirická část je postavena na analýze polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s jejich zástupci a na analýze jejich zakládajících dokumentů. Vyplývá z ní, že demokracie se v ekonomických alternativách uplatňuje v různé míře a různými způsoby. Pro přibližně jednu třetinu zkoumaných družstev a spolků je demokracie důležitou, reflektovanou a uplatňovanou hodnotou. Ve většině zbývajících se objevuje v menší míře a několik spolků a družstev mají demokratické postupy velmi oslabené. Ukotvení demokracie v zakládajících dokumentech toto spektrum neodráží – ve stanovách všech zkoumaných alternativ je zhruba v podobné míře, zpravidla v souladu se zněním českého zákoníku.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of economic alternatives and builds on the research "Forms and values of alternative economic practices in the Czech Republic" from 2014 to 2016. It focuses on one of the five basic characteristics of economic alternatives - democracy. The goal of the thesis is to identify out what is the role of the democratic structure, management and decision-making process in selected economic alternatives, how it is enshrined in their founding documents, reflected by their representatives and implemented in practice. The research sample consists of a total of 25 economic alternatives in the form of a cooperative and association. The empirical part is based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with their representatives and on the analysis of their founding documents. Research shows that democracy is applied in economic alternatives to various extent and in different ways. For about one third of the surveyed cooperatives and associations, democracy has an important, reflected and applied value. In most of the others, democracy appears to a lesser extent. Several associations and cooperatives have very weakened democratic practices. Democracy in the founding documents does not reflect this spectrum – in the entire research sample is to a similar extent, usually in accordance with the Czech Code.
