Heart rate variability - effect of acoustic (auditory) stimulation of autonomic vegetative regulatory heart rate in patients with epilepsy

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of autonomous regulation of heart activity in patients with pharmacoresistant epilepsy during sound stimulation. The subject of the research is the analysis of heart rate variability in the time domain between the individual phases of sound stimulation, in which we evaluate the activity of the autonomic nervous system under altered cognitive load of the patient. Parameters of heart rate variability were obtained from ECG examinations of 30 patients performed half-sitting while watching distractor-film. One of the goals was to find out whether the external stimulus, sound and increase of cognitive load can have a significant impact on the patient's cooperation with epilepsy during rehabilitation. The resulting statistical evaluation does not indicate a significant change in heart rate variability between the phases of sound stimulation.

Abstract:

Predkladaná diplomová práca sa zaoberá hodnotením autonómnej regulácie srdcovej činnosti u pacientov s farmakorezistentnou epilepsiou počas zvukovej stimulácie. Predmetom výskumu je analýza variability srdcovej frekvencie v časovej oblasti medzi jednotlivými fázami zvukovej stimulácie, v ktorej hodnotíme aktivitu autonómnej nervovej sústavy pri zmenenom kognitívnom zaťažení pacienta. Parametre variability srdcovej frekvencie boli získané z EKG vyšetrení 30 pacientov vykonaných v polosede pri sledovaní distraktor-filmu. Jedným z cieľov bolo zistenie či vonkajší podnet, zvuk a zvýšenie kognitívneho zaťaženia môžu mať značný vplyv na spoluprácu pacienta s epilepsiou počas rehabilitácie. Výsledné štatistické zhodnotenie nepoukazuje na značnú zmenu variability srdcovej frekvencie medzi jednotlivými fázami zvukovej stimulácie.
