Design of auxiliary electric drive on solar energy for truck transport

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá návrhem parametrů solárního zdroje pro střechu návěsu a následným využitím energie pomocným elektrickým pohonem v hnacím ústrojí kamionu. V teoretické části práce je popsána dynamika nákladního vozidla spolu s jednotlivými jízdními odpory. Je provedena analýza spotřeby paliva kamionů a jsou popsána důležitá hnací ústrojí, jejich výhody, nevýhody a vyhlídky do budoucna. Dále jsou popsány technologie a trendy solární energetiky. Teoretická část slouží zejména k bližšímu pochopení problematiky diplomové práce. Praktická část se zabývá zejména návrhem základních parametrů solárního zdroje a pomocného elektrického pohonu. Rovněž je ale rozebrán sestavený matematický model a menší část je věnována porovnání naměřeného souboru dat solárního záření s daty z internetu. Simulace byly prováděny pro případ všech měsíců roku z důvodu dosažení vysoké přesnosti. Pro přínos na celém evropském kontinentě byly posouzeny případy severní, střední a jižní Evropy. Simulací dosažené úspory paliva jsou nejpodstatnější dle očekávání v jižní Evropě, oproti tomu severní Evropa disponuje výrazně nižším potenciálem. Vliv ročních období také nelze zanedbat, zimní měsíce jsou z hlediska úspor paliva velice nevýhodné oproti zbytku roku. Nejvyšších úspor bylo dosaženo v měsících květen až srpen. Ze simulací vyplývá, že nejlepších výsledků lze dosáhnout kombinací s trakční baterií disponující dostatečnou kapacitou, která umožňuje optimalizaci řízení a výrazně vyšší úspory paliva. Navržený systém se jeví jako dobré řešení pro snížení spotřeby paliva a tím i emisí skleníkových plynů, má tedy potenciál přispět k dekarbonizaci nákladní dopravy.

Abstract:

The focus of this thesis is on the definition of parameters for a photovoltaic power source located on the roof of a heavy-duty vehicle trailer and the subsequent use of the produced energy with an auxiliary electric drive. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the dynamics of a heavy-duty vehicle, along with the various driving resistances. Fuel consumption analysis of trucks is also performed. Important propulsion systems are described, along with their advantages, disadvantages, and prospects for the future. In addition, solar energy technologies and trends are described. The theoretical part serves primarily to gain a deeper understanding of the issues addressed in the thesis. The practical part focuses mainly on the definition of basic parameters for the photovoltaic source and auxiliary electric drive. A mathematical model, which was developed for the purpose of evaluation is described along with a small part devoted to a comparison of the real world measured solar radiation data set with data available from the internet. Simulations were conducted individually for each month of the year to achieve high accuracy. Cases for northern, central, and southern Europe were also evaluated in order to produce a relevant analysis for the entire European continent. As expected, the simulations showed that the most significant fuel savings could be achieved in southern Europe, while northern Europe had a significantly lower potential. The influence of the seasons cannot be overlooked either, as the winter months are very disadvantageous in terms of fuel savings compared to the rest of the year, with the highest savings achieved in the months of May to August. The simulations indicate that the best results can be achieved with an added battery, possessing a sufficient capacity. The battery allows for an optimization of control algorithms and significantly higher fuel savings. The proposed system appears to be a good solution for reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore has the potential to contribute to decarbonizing freight transportation.
