In vitro efficacy of anthelmintic drugs against monogeneans

Abstract:

Zástupci třídy Monogenea jsou převážně ektoparaziti, které můžeme najít z velké části na kůži a žábrech ryb, ale někteří zástupci žijí i endoparaziticky, např. v kloace obojživelníků, ve střevě ryb apod. Dospělci jsou charakterističtí přítomností přichycovacího aparátu, opisthaptoru, jehož stavba se liší mezi jednotlivými taxony. Je důležitým znakem při klasifikaci jednotlivých druhů. Jejich vývoj je přímý bez mezihostitele, což jim umožňuje rychlé šíření mezi hostiteli. Práce je z velké části rešeršní. Nejprve se práce věnuje obecné charakteristice třídy Monogenea, jejich životnímu cyklu a klasifikaci. Dále je rozebírána patogenita těchto parazitů a možnost léčby onemocnění, které způsobují. Další část práce se zabývá alternativními možnostmi léčby monogeneóz, je zde uvedeno využití „netradičních“ prostředků, využití rostlinných extraktů, např. extraktu z česneku. Poslední část zahrnuje experiment, který se věnuje přežívání monogeneí, konkrétně rodu Gyrodactylus ve třech námi vybraných léčivech – levamisolu, fenbendazolu a ivermectinu v různých koncentracích.

Abstract:

Monogeneans are mainly ectoparasites, which can be found mostly on the skin and gills of fish. Some of them can be endoparasitic (e. g. in cloaca of amphibians, intestine of fish etc.). Opisthaptor is typical for monogeneans. It secures attachment to host and it differs between taxa. It is important feature in the classification of the species. These parasites have a single host life cycle without intermediate host. This thesis is based mostly on literature retrieval. At first, the thesis deals with characteristics of Monogenea, their life cycle and classification. Next, pathogenicity of these parasites is discussed, followed by options of medical treatment that can be used against them. Another part is concerned with alternative treatment of monogeneosis, using “unusual” agents, plant extracts (e. g. garlic extract). Data on experimental in vitro survival of Gyrodactylus spp. (Monogenea) exposed to three selected drugs of various concentrations – levamisole, fenbendazole and ivermectin are evaluated in the final part of the thesis.
