The Oulipian Constraint in the Novel Sphinx by Anne F. Garréta

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the intentional hiding of gender of main characters in the Anne F. Garréta's novel Sphinx (1986). In the first part, the author herself, her work, and the experimental literary group OuLiPo, of which Garréta is a member, are introduced. The analytical part deals with individual methods used to hide gender of the main characters. The analysis then focuses on space-time and its role in the formation of the main character who is a narrator as well.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá záměrným zatajováním rodu hlavních postav v románu Sphinx (1986) od Anne. F. Garréta. V první části je představená samotná autorka, její dílo a také experimentální literární skupina OuLiPo, jejíž členkou Garréta je. Analytická část práce zkoumá jednotlivé postupy, pomocí kterých je autorka schopná zatajit rod hlavních postav. Analýza se dále zaměřuje na časoprostor a jeho úlohu při formování hlavní postavy, která je zároveň vypravěčem.
